Essential steps for both domestic and international DLT registration in India. Learn how Indian entities and foreign businesses can comply with TRAI regulations for SMS delivery.
The following section outlines the essential steps for both local and international DLT registration in India. Depending on whether your business is domiciled in India or overseas, the registration process and requirements differ significantly.
Understanding these differences is critical to ensuring your SMS traffic flows smoothly and remains fully compliant with TRAI regulations.
“Local” in this context refers to the domestic registration process for Indian businesses and entities. This section guides Indian clients through the steps required for DLT registration to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Register on one of the TRAI-approved operator DLT portal platforms (STPL, Airtel, Jio, etc.) to obtain your Principal Entity ID (PE ID). You must provide your business details, PAN card, and authorized signatory information.
After logging in or registering on the DLT platform, register your Sender IDs (Headers) and Content Templates in the operator's DLT Portal. These are critical components for sending messages while adhering to regulatory requirements.
Once the initial registration is complete, export the registered details in a .CSV format and provide this file to Tetrax for configuration.
Upon receipt of the .CSV file, Tetrax will configure or link these details on our end. This establishes the necessary connections with the operators, allowing traffic to flow smoothly while ensuring DLT compliance.
Once the configuration is complete, you can send messages using the method that suits your compatibility — such as our REST API — ensuring a streamlined and compliant messaging process.
If you prefer to configure the DLT registration yourself instead of sharing the .CSV file, you can upload it directly through the Tetrax dashboard by following these steps:
Sign in to your Tetrax account at the Tetrax Console.
Go to SMS Services and select DLT Data Management from the compliance section.
Click Add Entity to add your PE ID and corresponding Sender IDs. The page will refresh and your Sender ID will appear in the list.
Click on the Sender ID and select Add Template. This allows you to enter the template name, template ID, and the template message content.
For international traffic to flow to India, there are typically two approaches depending on whether the sender has a local entity in India:
If the client has a local entity established in India, they can send traffic to India by following the same registration process on the DLT platform as outlined in the local procedure above.
View local registration guide →If the client does not have a local entity in India, reach out to Tetrax support to configure the account. The account manager will facilitate international traffic based on the setup and vendor arrangements.
